Halloween Adapted Books: "The Black Bats Flapped All Around"
These Halloween Adapted Books include two adapted books that provide students with lots of Halloween fun and hands-on practice for identifying Halloween vocabulary words, answering -wh questions, and working on sequencing skills.
The first book, is and Adapted Song Book! "The Black Bats Flapped All Around," is a Halloween Adaptation of the song, "The Green Grass Grows All Around."
This song is a cumulative song in that it builds on itself. It is also an "echo," song, meaning each line is sung twice. (So there's lots of practice and repetition by design."
It starts like this:
There was a tree—
(There was a tree!)
in the spookiest town,
(In the spookiest town!)
the crooked-est tree
(The crooked-set tree!)
that you ever did see.
(That you ever did see!)
Well, the tree by the road
and the road in the town,
And the black bats flapped
all around, all around—
And the black bats flapped
all around.
Each time the page is turned--a new line is added, students will add the newest picture (Halloween Vocabulary), and there are bats included to "flap around" as you sing! At the end of the book, there are -Wh questions that students can answer using the interactive pieces included.
This book includes matching pieces for Halloween vocabulary words and answer pieces for Wh-questions at the end of the story.
The second book teaches students the steps to making real "witch's slime." (It goes with the song!) Students can match each step to each page and then sequence the entire process on the very last page of the book.
This book also includes a visual recipe card if you would like to extend the learning and make real slime with your students.
These books are packed with so much ooey-gooey, slimy-grimy Halloween fun! I sure hope your students love them.
